Tomatoes are eaten in practically every continent and are grown in many places around the globe. Despite being a fruit it is generally prepared and treated like a vegetable and it's unique taste has earned it a slot in a lot of dishes today.
Tomatoes are a major dietary source of lycopene and antioxidants which has been linked to reduced risk of heart disease and cancer. They are also a rich source of vitamin C, vitamin K and potasium folate.
Tomatoes are usually red when ripe but they can also come in yellow, orange, green and purple.
