1. Drop the Temperature
Some of us have a bad habit of turning up the cooker to its maximum temperature so as to hasten the time it takes to prepare meals. This habit wastes gas as anything above the minimal required temperature will be a waste.
2. Get a Pressure Cooker
Pressure cookers make use of high internal temperatures and great conductivity to cook food under shorter periods of time. You can use pressure cookers when cooking food that normally takes a long time to prepare such as beans.
3. Soak Food Before Cooking
Food like beans can be soaked for a while before cooking, this helps to shorten it's cooking time and in return save gas.
4. Make Sure your Pot or Pan Covers the flames
If the flames from the stove pass the sides of your pot it means the stove is turned up too high or the pot is too small. Reduce the temperature until the flames are restricted to being underneath the pot/pan.
5. Keep your Burners Clean
Make sure your Burners are kept clean, wipe all debris around it and be sure to use a material that is not too brittle. The gas flames should be a bright blue if the flames are orange it could mean there are some debris lying on the burner or underneath the pot.
Conclusion
Compared to kerosine stoves gas cookers are very effective and fast in cooking food but can be expensive. Make sure you use a pressure cooker for dishes that take a long time to prepare, keep your burners clean and do not raise the temperature all the way to the top.
I hope these methods will prove useful in managing your gas.
